AUGUST Meeting Recap

ORCIA Leadership & Financial Updates

The August meeting began with organizational updates and recognition of those serving ORCIA.

Sam Haubrick thanked Todd Stuart and Scott Perry for their service and work as Secretary and Executive Director.

Updates included:

  • Approval of previous meeting minutes and the most recent Treasurer’s Report.

  • Review of ongoing website, communication, and payment-processing expenses.

  • Membership dues and upcoming conference revenue are expected to help replenish organizational funds.

The group also revisited the need to fill the presidential role and establish hospitality committees to support future ORCIA activities and events.

November Education & Conference Planning

Plans are moving forward for the upcoming November 13 education session at Meridian.

Topics and speakers currently planned include:

  • Kelly Parker — Discussion of the 2024 IRC adoption and ventilation considerations related to spray foam insulation.

  • Terry Reed — Presentation covering Standards of Practice.

  • An additional course covering appliance inspections is awaiting approval and will require a CI check and website posting.

The morning session is scheduled for November 13, with additional planning underway for the conference, member communications, and event details.

Website, Membership & Member Communication

The group continued discussing ways to improve ORCIA's digital presence and make communication with members more efficient.

Priorities include:

  • Continuing the new ORCIA website.

  • Automating membership renewals whenever possible.

  • Ensuring email notifications and important updates reach all members.

  • Continuing regular newsletters and improved conference communications.

  • Developing website features that can eventually support scheduling, information storage, and other member needs.

The goal is to create a more streamlined experience for both ORCIA leadership and members while reducing unnecessary manual processes.

AI & the Future of Home Inspections

Guest speaker Terry Reed, an AI developer working in Europe, provided an overview of how artificial intelligence is being developed and used within the home inspection industry.

The presentation explored AI-powered tools for image analysis, reporting, data collection, and inspection workflow assistance.

AI has the potential to help inspectors:

  • Analyze photographs and inspection information.

  • Streamline portions of the reporting process.

  • Improve efficiency in the field.

  • Organize and process inspection data more effectively.

  • Integrate new technology into existing inspection workflows.

The discussion also addressed challenges associated with legacy software, offline functionality, team synchronization, and integrating AI into existing inspection processes.

Professional Judgment Still Matters

While AI offers exciting opportunities for the industry, the discussion emphasized that technology should remain a tool for the inspector—not a replacement for the inspector.

AI-generated information still requires professional oversight and verification. Inspectors ultimately remain responsible for their findings, reports, professional judgment, and liability.

The goal moving forward is to better understand how AI can add value to the inspection process while maintaining the professional standards and responsibility expected of ORCIA members.

Future development will continue to explore AI-enabled inspection tools, offline data collection, team synchronization, and website-based solutions for scheduling and information storage.
